Born and raised in Charlestown he started his working life at BHP as a metallurgist before the shutdown led him to revaluate his future. Medicine had always been a passion and he went back to study at the University of Newcastle graduating it 2007. Completing junior medical training throughout the Hunter Area Health Service and went on to complete his General Practice training in 2011. He has worked part time in General Practice and as an Assistant Surgeon for over the 6 years.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, and a member of the Skin Cancer College Australasia. He holds certificates in Skin Cancer Medicine and is completing a Master of Medicine, in Skin Cancer, through the University of Queensland.
